Welcome Gathering --- An Opportunity to Renew Old Friendships
Time: 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Location: Swaim Park, Montgomery, Ohio
Food: Pizza, salad, soft drinks, wine, beer
Classmates started arriving even before the scheduled 6:00 pm start for our Welcome Gathering at Swaim Park, located at the corner of Cooper Road and Zig Zag Road in Montgomery. While enjoying soft drinks, beer, and wine, we renewed friendships as we greeted each new arrival with big smiles, handshakes, and warm hugs. Around 7:00 pm, a casual dinner arrived in the form of pizza, salad, soft drinks, wine, and beer.
We had 25 classmates in attendance at the Friday night event with a grand total of approximately 55 persons in attendance including spouses/guests, members from other Sycamore classes, and a number of our former teachers (Jean Bowman Dugan, Richard Dugan, Mary Lou Weber Henke, Dan Henke, and Dottie Kile Schnurrenberger).
One of the many highlights of the evening was an impromptu musical jam session which consisted of Skip Smith (class of 1960) on the guitar, Jerry Walker on the banjo, and Zeke Smith on the harmonica. They played for approximately 45 minutes to the delight of the surprised audience. The evening ended around 10:00 pm with much anticipation of the upcoming Saturday reunion events.
